Gyosho is an intermediate dive site on the Izu Peninsula's eastern coast, named after a traditional fishing spot that has become one of the region's favorite diving destinations. The site features a volcanic rock reef descending to 20 meters, with a series of small pinnacles and boulders creating an intricate underwater topography. The rocky substrate supports dense marine growth including kelp forests, hydroids, and encrusting sponges, providing habitat for an impressive variety of small creatures. Gyosho is celebrated among Japanese macro photographers for its resident frogfish, hairy shrimp, and Coleman's shrimp on fire urchins. Schools of striped catfish and Japanese cardinalfish add movement to the scene. The moderate depth allows extended bottom times perfect for patient macro hunting. Combined with the Izu Peninsula's exceptional nudibranch diversity and the influence of the Kuroshio Current bringing occasional tropical surprises, Gyosho delivers consistent, engaging dives year-round.
