Munseom (문섬), also known as Moon Island, is one of Jeju Island's premier advanced diving destinations off South Korea's southernmost coast. Plunging to an impressive 60 metres, this volcanic pinnacle offers some of the most dramatic underwater topography in Korean waters, attracting experienced divers seeking deep wall diving and encounters with temperate marine species unique to the region. Munseom rises from the seafloor as a volcanic formation, its underwater cliffs and walls shaped by centuries of ocean currents carving the basalt rock. The walls are sheer in places, dropping vertically into the deep blue, creating a sense of awe that rivals tropical wall diving destinations. Horizontal crevices and small caverns punctuate the rock face, each harbouring marine life adapted to the current-swept environment. The marine ecology at Munseom reflects Jeju's unique position at the confluence of warm Kuroshio Current waters and cooler northern flows. Soft corals including vibrant Dendronephthya species coat the walls in spectacular displays of colour, particularly at depth where current flow is strongest. Giant sea fans spread across prominent rock faces, their delicate structures providing habitat for pygmy seahorses and other small residents. Schools of striped beakfish and yellowtail gather along the walls, while numerous species of wrasse and rockfish inhabit the crevices. During summer months, when the Kuroshio Current strengthens, tropical visitors including butterflyfish and occasionally even sea turtles appear at the site. The deeper sections may reveal encounters with larger species including groupers and the occasional school of hammerhead sharks. Water conditions at Munseom vary significantly with the seasons. Summer temperatures reach 22 to 26 degrees Celsius with visibility of 15 to 30 metres, while winter drops to 12 to 16 degrees with visibility sometimes exceeding 30 metres in the clearer cold water. A quality drysuit or thick wetsuit is essential for all but the warmest summer months. Munseom demands respect for its depth and current, but rewards prepared divers with some of the most spectacular underwater scenery in East Asia.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
