Maggie's Maze is an advanced dive site on Grand Cayman's south coast, where an intricate network of coral canyons and swim-throughs at 18 metres creates a labyrinthine underwater landscape that challenges navigation skills and rewards exploration. The maze-like topography gives this site its apt name and makes every visit feel like a new adventure as divers discover passages they missed on previous dives. The reef structure consists of tall coral ridges separated by narrow sand-floored channels, with connecting tunnels and overhangs linking adjacent passages. Some channels are barely wide enough for a single diver, while others open into broader chambers where multiple pathways converge. The three-dimensional complexity is the site's defining feature, requiring divers to maintain spatial awareness while managing buoyancy in confined spaces. The coral walls of the maze are in excellent health, with dense hard coral coverage that includes mountainous star coral, brain coral, and plate coral species forming the structural framework. The sheltered conditions within the channels promote luxuriant growth of sponges and soft corals, with tube sponges in vivid purples rising from ledges and rope sponges draping between coral heads. Marine life within the maze is abundant, with the complex structure providing habitat for an impressive density of species. Moray eels peer from crevices at eye level as divers navigate the passages, while lobsters retreat into the darker recesses. Schools of grunts and glassy sweepers gather in the broader chambers, their silver bodies catching stray beams of light that penetrate from above. Nurse sharks occasionally rest on the sandy channel floors. The confined nature of some passages means good buoyancy and fin technique are essential to avoid damaging the coral or stirring up sediment. The advanced rating reflects both the navigational challenge and the need for precise diving skills rather than depth-related difficulties. Visibility within the maze is typically slightly lower than on open reef due to the sheltered conditions, but generally exceeds 15 metres. Water temperatures remain a comfortable 27 to 29 degrees throughout the year.
