Northwest Point is one of Grand Cayman's most exposed and biologically productive intermediate dive sites, positioned at the northwestern tip of the island where the wall system turns the corner from the western shore into the north side — a topographic transition that creates some of the strongest currents and most dynamic marine life conditions accessible to recreational divers on the island. The point sits at the junction of water masses flowing from different directions, and this oceanographic complexity generates the nutrient concentration and fish activity that make the site consistently exciting. The wall at Northwest Point drops dramatically from the reef edge into the deep blue of the Cayman Trench — one of the most dramatic descent profiles on the island, with the wall face particularly steep and the visual effect of looking down intensified by the current-swept clarity of the water. The wall is colonised with the mature invertebrate communities that high-current, well-oxygenated walls support: enormous sea fans extend from the wall face, black coral trees of impressive age and size establish in the deeper sections, and the sponge communities on the shaded overhang surfaces are among the most diverse on the Cayman wall system. Fish life at Northwest Point is characteristically intense. The current concentration at the island's point creates an environment where schooling species accumulate in numbers greater than the calmer western reef sites typically produce. Horse-eye jacks form enormous circling formations above the reef edge. Atlantic spadefish hover in disc-shaped schools. Caribbean reef sharks and nurse sharks are regular presences at the wall edge. And on the best days, the open-water influence of the northwest corner brings pelagic encounters — hammerhead sharks in winter, manta rays seasonally, and the occasional large tuna — that the more sheltered western sites rarely deliver. The intermediate rating reflects the current conditions that make this site dynamic rather than particularly hazardous — experienced intermediate divers who can manage their position in flowing water will find Northwest Point one of Grand Cayman's most rewarding and memorable sites.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
