Comino Island Blue Lagoon is a beginner-friendly dive site at Malta's most famous natural swimming spot, where the shallow turquoise waters between Comino and Cominotto islands conceal a surprisingly rewarding diving experience. The Blue Lagoon's postcard-perfect turquoise colour is created by the white sand bottom reflecting sunlight through crystal-clear water. The lagoon's shallow, sheltered waters provide ideal conditions for introductory dives and snorkelling. The sandy bottom is interspersed with rocky outcrops and reef formations that support Mediterranean marine communities. The exceptional water clarity, with visibility often exceeding 30 metres, ensures every organism is seen in vivid detail. Beyond the lagoon itself, the surrounding reef offers more substantial diving along Comino's rocky coastline. Underwater caves, swim-throughs, and boulder fields provide exploration opportunities at various depths. The island's uninhabited status and marine protection have resulted in healthier reef conditions than more heavily dived areas. Marine life in the Blue Lagoon area includes Mediterranean reef species in good numbers. Ornate wrasses and rainbow wrasses add colour, while damselfish and bream patrol the reef edges. Octopuses are common residents, and the clear water makes spotting them easier than at less visible sites. The surrounding deeper water hosts larger species including groupers and occasional amberjack. The beginner rating applies to the lagoon and sheltered reef areas, though more exposed sections around Comino offer intermediate to advanced diving. The lagoon's popularity with swimmers and snorkellers during summer means early morning or late afternoon dives offer the most peaceful experiences. Water temperatures range from 16 to 27 degrees, with the lagoon warming quickly in summer. The Blue Lagoon delivers gentle, crystal-clear Mediterranean diving in one of Malta's most beautiful natural settings.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
