Crystal Lagoon on Comino Island is a beginner-friendly dive site adjacent to Malta's more famous Blue Lagoon. This second lagoon, slightly smaller and less visited than its neighbour, offers pristine snorkelling and shallow diving in water of remarkable clarity. The lagoon occupies a sheltered inlet on Comino's coast, with limestone walls creating a natural enclosure that protects the water from swell and current. The bottom is a mix of white sand and rocky reef, with the exceptional water clarity creating the crystal-like transparency that gives the lagoon its name. Visibility regularly exceeds 30 metres. The shallow reef within the lagoon supports Mediterranean marine life adapted to the calm, well-lit conditions. Posidonia seagrass beds create underwater meadows, while rocky outcrops host sponges, algae, and encrusting organisms. The combination of habitats within the sheltered lagoon creates surprising biodiversity. Marine life includes wrasses, damselfish, and bream in the reef sections, while the seagrass beds shelter seahorses and juvenile fish. Octopuses are regularly encountered among the rocks, and cuttlefish hover above the sandy patches. The calm conditions make observation and photography particularly rewarding. The beginner rating reflects the sheltered conditions, shallow depth, and easy entry. The lagoon is less crowded than the Blue Lagoon, particularly outside peak summer season, offering a more intimate experience. Water temperatures range from 16 to 27 degrees. Crystal Lagoon provides gentle, crystal-clear Mediterranean diving in one of Malta's most pristine marine settings.
