Pretty in Pink is a charmingly named intermediate dive site in Mulaku Atoll that earns its description through the stunning profusion of pink soft corals that dominate sections of this reef, creating an underwater landscape of extraordinary delicacy and beauty. The site offers divers with moderate experience an immersion in one of the atoll's most visually distinctive reef ecosystems, where the pink coral theme runs through every aspect of the dive. The descent through clear Mulaku waters reveals the reef's signature character — soft corals in shades of pink, from the palest blush to vivid magenta, draping from overhangs, sprouting from ledges, and cascading down the reef face in profusion. The visual effect, particularly when illuminated by dive torchlight that reveals the true intensity of the colors, is genuinely breathtaking. The pink theme is complemented by secondary colors — purple sponges, orange cup corals, and the vivid hues of the reef fish that inhabit this colorful environment. The soft coral communities at Pretty in Pink have developed in exceptional density, fueled by the nutrient-rich conditions that the atoll's current patterns provide. Gorgonian fans extend from the reef face in elegant flat profiles, their branching structures providing habitat for tiny organisms — hawkfish perching on the branches, nudibranchs navigating the surfaces, and the occasional pygmy seahorse clinging to a matching pink gorgonian with virtually invisible camouflage. These intimate discoveries add a treasure-hunt dimension to the broader visual spectacle. The fish community at the site is abundant and varied. Schools of anthias — themselves pink and orange — hover above the soft coral in clouds that extend the color theme into the water column. Butterflyfish and angelfish patrol the reef, groupers shelter beneath the overhangs, and reef sharks occasionally cruise past the deeper edges. Sea turtles visit the reef, and the occasional eagle ray sweeps through the blue beyond. Pretty in Pink is a dive that celebrates the softer, more beautiful side of tropical marine ecosystems — a site where the underwater world's capacity for creating scenes of genuine loveliness is displayed in one of the most concentrated and vivid soft coral gardens in the central Maldives.
