Okorotere Island

Okorotere Island is an intermediate dive site in the Hauraki Gulf near Mahurangi, reaching 20 meters around a small island that provides sheltered diving in the productive inner gulf waters. The island's reef systems extend into the surrounding water, creating diverse habitats that support the warm temperate marine community characteristic of this region. The underwater terrain around Okorotere Island features volcanic rock formations extending from the island's shore into deeper water. Kelp forests frame the shallower sections, creating the atmospheric underwater woodland that is one of temperate diving's most distinctive environments.
