Titahi Bay North is a beginner-friendly dive site on the Porirua coast north of Wellington, reaching just 6 meters in the sheltered northern section of this popular beach. The shallow depth and protected conditions create one of the most accessible dive sites in the Wellington region, ideal for introductory experiences and training activities. The shallow rocky reef extending from the bay's northern headland provides habitat for a compact but diverse marine community. The volcanic rock supports kelp growth and encrusting organisms, while the sandy areas between rock formations host bottom-dwelling species. The 6-meter maximum depth ensures exceptional natural lighting and comfortable conditions for divers at every level. Marine life at this shallow site includes spotty wrasse, triplefins, various goby species, and the invertebrate community of nudibranchs, sea stars, and crustaceans that provides macro interest for observant divers. The sheltered conditions mean fish behavior tends to be relaxed, allowing close observation. Titahi Bay North provides the Wellington region's most gentle introduction to ocean diving, where the simplicity of the conditions allows complete focus on developing comfort and appreciation for the underwater world.
