Pottery is a beginner-friendly dive site off the western coast of Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand, a shallow reef reaching twelve meters depth that offers easy, enjoyable diving with a distinctive character. The site takes its name from the scattered pottery fragments and ceramic pieces that have been placed on the seabed, creating artificial substrate that marine life has colonized alongside the natural reef. The underwater terrain mixes sandy bottom with rocky reef formations and the distinctive pottery elements that give the site its character. The combination of natural and artificial substrate creates a varied landscape that supports diverse marine communities. Hard corals have established on both the natural rock and the pottery surfaces, and the overall reef is developing nicely as these habitats merge. Fish life is typical of healthy Koh Tao reef systems, with damselfish, wrasse, and parrotfish providing constant color. Schools of snappers and fusiliers visit the reef, and anemones with clownfish are found throughout. The pottery elements create additional shelter for small fish and invertebrates, and the macro life includes nudibranchs, shrimp, and crabs. The shallow depth and calm conditions make Pottery ideal for training dives and discover scuba experiences. The unique character of the site adds interest that goes beyond standard sandy-bottom training environments, giving new divers genuine reef encounters during their first dives. Pottery offers a charming, distinctive dive experience that combines the appeal of natural reef with the curiosity of man-made objects being reclaimed by the sea. It is a small but genuinely enjoyable addition to Koh Tao's extensive dive site portfolio.
