Lighthouse Bay Reef is a scenic and accessible beginner dive site in Nha Trang Bay — a coral reef area named for its proximity to one of the coastal lighthouses that mark the entrance to the bay and its island approaches, situated within the protected waters of the Hon Mun Marine Protected Area that serves as the cornerstone of Vietnam's marine conservation program. The site offers Nha Trang's characteristic combination of warm, clear water, diverse coral formations, and the rich Indo-Pacific reef fish community that makes this bay one of the most enjoyable and visually rewarding beginner diving destinations in Southeast Asia. The reef structure in this area features the coral diversity typical of Hon Mun's protected zones: staghorn and table Acropora create architecturally complex formations in the shallower sections, while massive Porites bommies provide large, stable structures that anchor the reef community and serve as cleaning stations and territorial landmarks for larger fish. The fish life at Lighthouse Bay Reef is abundant and colorful: butterflyfish pairs work the coral surfaces with the precise, focused movements of specialists attuned to their ecological niche. Parrotfish graze with characteristic crunching sounds on the coral limestone. Sergeant major damselfish defend territories above the coral with energetic charging displays. The moray eel diversity at Nha Trang sites is particularly notable — both yellow and giant moray eels are present, along with the geometric and snowflake morays that thrill macro photographers with their extraordinary patterning. Sea turtles make appearances at this and neighboring Hon Mun sites, their presence facilitated by the MPA's protection from the fishing pressure that has eliminated them from less protected areas of the Vietnamese coast.
