Cemetery Bay

Cemetery Bay is a beginner-accessible dive site in the Hon Mun area of Nha Trang Bay — a bay whose evocative name references a small historic cemetery on the nearby island shore, adding a layer of cultural context to what is otherwise one of the more pleasant and accessible dive environments in Vietnam's most famous bay. The site descends to approximately 15 meters (about 50 feet) in the protected inner bay waters, providing comfortable beginner-depth diving in the characteristically warm, clear conditions of the Hon Mun Marine Protected Area. The reef at Cemetery Bay features the diverse coral growth typical of the inner Hon Mun zone, with the massive Porites bommies that characterize Nha Trang's reef landscape serving as the topographic anchors of the site. Smaller coral formations — branching Acropora, encrusting corals, and sea rods — fill the spaces between the large bommies, creating the habitat diversity that supports the fish community. The fish life at Cemetery Bay reflects the productive character of the MPA-protected Hon Mun reef zone: schoolmaster-type snapper and various grunt species shelter in aggregations beneath the large coral formations; parrotfish graze across the reef surface; various surgeonfish and unicornfish — yellowfin surgeonfish, brown surgeonfish, and the distinctively protuberant unicornfish — form mixed grazing schools. Moray eels and lionfish are reliably encountered throughout the reef. Sea turtles are regular visitors, the MPA's protection having allowed the gradual recovery of turtle populations in Nha Trang Bay. The calm, sheltered character of this inner bay location makes Cemetery Bay suitable for beginner certification training as well as leisure diving.
