Dam Bay is a sheltered and beginner-friendly dive site in the Hon Mun area of Nha Trang Bay — a protected bay environment on one of the inner islands of Vietnam's most famous bay diving destination, offering easy access to a diverse coral reef at depths reaching approximately 16 meters (about 53 feet) in the calm, warm waters of the South China Sea. The bay's protected geography creates the calm conditions that make Dam Bay particularly suitable for beginner divers and those seeking a relaxed, extended exploration of the reef without current management challenges. The coral reef at Dam Bay features the mixed community typical of inner Hon Mun zone sites: massive Porites bommies rise from the sandy bottom as the dominant structural features, their surfaces heavily colonized by encrusting organisms and serving as cleaning station hubs. Branching and table corals fill the spaces between the large formations in the shallower sections, while encrusting and soft corals dominate the deeper reef margins. The fish community reflects the protected character of the bay: resident grouper occupy the large coral structures with confident authority; various snapper species school in the mid-water; parrotfish of multiple species graze on the coral surface; and the abundant damselfish and chromis community hovers above the canopy in characteristic formations. Moray eels — giant and geometric species — inhabit the reef crevices throughout the site, and sea turtles make regular appearances from the neighboring reef zones. Cuttlefish are frequently encountered in the sandy areas of Dam Bay, their mesmerizing color-change displays and tentacle movements making them consistently fascinating subjects for underwater photography. The calm conditions and moderate depth make Dam Bay excellent for underwater photography classes and extended macro observation.
