Telephone Pole on San Salvador is an advanced dive site named for a distinctive tall coral pillar that rises from the wall like a telephone pole. This solitary column, standing at the edge of a vertical drop-off, serves as a cleaning station where large pelagics come to be serviced by cleaner wrasses and gobies. Hammerhead sharks, silky sharks, and large groupers are frequently seen hovering near the pole. The wall beyond plunges into the abyss of the Columbus Passage, and the exposed position means currents can be strong but also bring impressive open-water encounters.
