South Channel

South Channel off the Belize coast is an advanced shallow dive through a natural channel cut in the barrier reef at only 8 meters depth. Despite the shallow depth, this site earns its advanced rating through powerful tidal currents that rush through the narrow passage. When the timing is right, the channel becomes a superhighway for marine life — large tarpon, schools of snappers, and nurse sharks all use this natural corridor. The current brings nutrients that support dense soft coral growth on the channel walls.
