Bajos del Sur (Southern Shallows) is an advanced dive to 32 meters near Valdivia in Chile's south. Despite the name suggesting shallow water, this offshore reef system reaches significant depth with rocky pinnacles and walls that attract pelagic species from the open southern Pacific. The cold, nutrient-rich waters support dense kelp growth at the top and impressive cold-water coral communities on the deeper walls. Strong currents demand advanced diving skills, but the combination of dramatic underwater topography and southern Chilean marine species makes this a compelling destination for experienced divers.
