Matapalo Rock is an advanced dive to 30 meters near the Golfo Dulce on Costa Rica's southern Pacific coast. This offshore rock pinnacle rises from the deep and is swept by strong Pacific currents that bring nutrient-rich waters and large marine visitors. The rocky walls are covered with sea fans, soft corals, and dense marine growth, while schools of jacks, barracuda, and snappers circle the pinnacle. Bull sharks and hammerhead sharks are occasional visitors, and whale sharks have been spotted during the plankton-rich season. The remote location and challenging conditions reward experienced divers with pristine underwater environments and exciting pelagic encounters.
