Cruz Corsario is a beginner-friendly dive at Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth), Cuba's second-largest island. This site near the Punta Francés National Marine Park features a coral cross formation on the seabed that gives the site its corsair name, evoking the island's pirate history. The surrounding reef is covered with pristine hard and soft corals, massive sponges, and sea fans in the remarkably clear Caribbean waters. Schools of jacks, groupers, and snappers populate the reef, while hawksbill turtles and nurse sharks are common visitors. The protected marine park status ensures exceptional reef health, making Cruz Corsario a window into what Caribbean reefs looked like before widespread degradation.
