Carbonera is an advanced dive near Varadero on Cuba's northern coast. This deep reef site features dramatic wall formations along the edge of the continental shelf off the Hicacos Peninsula. The wall drops steeply into deep blue water, with the face covered in large sea fans, black coral, and massive barrel sponges. Pelagic species including jacks, barracuda, and occasional reef sharks patrol the wall edge, while the shallow reef top supports healthy hard coral gardens. Strong currents and significant depth demand advanced diving skills, but Carbonera offers Varadero's most impressive deep diving with dramatic wall scenery and big-fish encounters.
