La Cathédrale is one of the most distinctive sites on the Port-Louis north coast. An unusually tall grotto opens into a ceiling so high it earned the site its name, with shafts of natural light falling through cracks above and glass sweepers crowding the darker recesses. The plan is a gentle descent along the reef to the grotto mouth at around 15 metres, a slow circuit through the main chamber, and an exit back onto the outer coral garden. Crabs, lobsters and moray eels pack the walls. Beginner-friendly at the entrance, but the overhead environment makes Advanced Open Water the honest call if you want to work the main room.
