Barkiza is an advanced dive site along the Athenian Riviera coast in the Attica region. This stretch of coastline south of Athens features underwater rock formations that drop into deeper water, creating walls and overhangs rich with marine life. The site is known for its healthy population of Mediterranean groupers, along with moray eels, scorpionfish, and large octopus. Sponge gardens decorate the walls, and small gorgonian fans appear at depth. Schools of barracuda and amberjack occasionally pass through the deeper sections. The proximity to Athens makes it accessible for day trips, though the depth and occasional currents require advanced certification. An underrated dive site hiding in plain sight near the capital.
