Rafti Island is an advanced dive site around a larger islet near Marathon on the northern Attica coast. This historically significant island — home to ancient marble quarrying remains visible on the summit — offers dramatic underwater terrain with steep walls dropping into deep water. The island's exposed position creates currents that attract pelagic species including amberjack and barracuda. Dense gorgonian forests and sponge gardens cover the deeper walls, while large groupers and moray eels inhabit the caves. The combination of archaeological surface interest, challenging diving conditions, and rich marine ecology makes Rafti one of the more rewarding dive destinations accessible from the Marathon coast.
