Morena Cave is an advanced cave dive site in the Peloponnese, Greece, named for the moray eels (morena in Greek) that inhabit the cave entrance. The site features a system of underwater caverns and tunnels carved into the limestone coastline. Impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations within the caves testify to their formation above sea level during past glacial periods. The cave entrances are decorated with colorful sponges and encrusting organisms, while the darker interior provides shelter for moray eels, shrimp, and crustaceans. The advanced rating reflects the overhead environment and navigation requirements. Morena Cave offers a thrilling underground exploration in the crystal-clear Peloponnese waters.
