Pillar Coral is an advanced dive off Roatán reaching 30 meters, named for its remarkable concentration of rare pillar coral colonies that grow vertically from the reef. These distinctive formations, increasingly uncommon throughout the Caribbean, create a forest-like underwater landscape. The pillar corals attract cleaning fish and provide shelter for juvenile reef species. Beyond the coral garden, the reef transitions to a wall with large sea fans, sponges, and patrolling barracuda. This site is particularly valued for its ecological significance and the opportunity to see a threatened coral species thriving in its natural habitat.
