Bakalang Jetty is a versatile muck and reef dive site in the Alor archipelago of East Nusa Tenggara, where the pilings and surrounding reef of a local jetty create a rich habitat for both macro critters and reef species. The site descends from shallow water to about 30 meters along a mix of sand, rubble, and coral formations. The jetty pilings attract schooling glassfish and cardinalfish, while frogfish, seahorses, and ghost pipefish hide among the growth on the structure. The surrounding sand hosts blue-ringed octopus, mimic octopus, and a variety of nudibranchs, making it a macro photographer's dream. The adjacent reef provides healthier coral coverage with sweetlips, groupers, and reef sharks adding to the diversity. Night diving is particularly productive, with a parade of unusual critters emerging after dark. Bakalang Jetty demonstrates Alor's remarkable versatility as a diving destination, combining world-class muck diving with excellent reef diving in a single location.
