Pasir Merah, meaning Red Sand, is an intermediate dive site in the Alor Archipelago of East Nusa Tenggara, named for the distinctive reddish volcanic sand that covers the seafloor to 30 meters depth. This unusual substrate creates a dramatic backdrop for the site's abundant macro life—frogfish, scorpionfish, and various species of octopus blend masterfully with the reddish terrain. The volcanic sand slopes are punctuated by small coral bommies that serve as cleaning stations and shelter for ribbon eels, leaf fish, and commensal shrimps. Crabs of all sizes—from tiny porcelain crabs to large hermit crabs—scuttle across the sand. The warm waters rising from Alor's volcanic seabed create unique conditions that support species found nowhere else in the region. Pasir Merah is a muck diving gem that combines Alor's frontier remoteness with critter encounters worthy of Lembeh, all set against an otherworldly landscape of red volcanic sand.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
