The Cauldron, also known as Shotgun, is one of Komodo's most thrilling and unique dive experiences—a natural channel between two islands that creates a powerful current funnel propelling divers through at exhilarating speed. The dive begins on a coral slope before entering the narrow channel where the current accelerates, shooting divers into a large sandy amphitheater known as the Cauldron where the flow disperses. This sandy bowl often hosts resting white-tip reef sharks, marble rays, and large schools of surgeonfish. The surrounding reef walls feature healthy hard corals and sea fans, with Napoleon wrasse, turtles, and trevally regularly present. The site demands comfort with strong currents and the ability to manage rapid depth changes, making it an advanced dive that delivers an adrenaline rush unlike anything else in Komodo.
