Illicnamo Pinnacle is an advanced deep dive in the waters between Alor and Atauro, where a submerged seamount rises from the abyss to within recreational diving limits before plunging to 50 meters and beyond. The pinnacle's summit is encrusted with vibrant soft corals, sea fans, and barrel sponges that filter the nutrient-laden currents sweeping through this deep channel. These currents attract impressive pelagic action—hammerhead sharks, mobula rays, and large schools of jacks regularly patrol the blue water surrounding the pinnacle. The steep walls harbor crevices filled with moray eels, lionfish, and colorful nudibranchs. Due to the depth, strong currents, and remote location, Illicnamo Pinnacle is reserved for experienced divers comfortable with drift techniques and deep profiles, but rewards them with some of the most exhilarating encounters in eastern Indonesia.
