Manta Run is a spectacular dive site near Sangalaki Island in the Derawan archipelago of East Kalimantan, renowned as one of Indonesia's most reliable locations for manta ray encounters. The shallow reef between 5 and 15 meters serves as a major feeding and cleaning station for oceanic manta rays, with multiple rays frequently seen on a single dive during peak season. The mantas glide gracefully over the reef, visiting cleaning stations where wrasses remove parasites, creating intimate encounters at close range. The surrounding reef is healthy with good coral coverage supporting schools of reef fish, while the sandy areas host blue-spotted stingrays and garden eels. The gentle conditions—shallow depth, mild currents, and warm water—make Manta Run accessible to beginner divers, allowing even newly certified divers to experience the magic of swimming alongside these gentle giants. Manta Run is the undisputed highlight of any diving trip to the Derawan Islands.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
