The Papatheo Shipwreck is a notable wreck dive in the Thousand Islands (Pulau Seribu) archipelago near Jakarta, featuring the remains of a Greek cargo ship that sank in the 1990s and now rests on the seabed at around 20 to 30 meters depth. The wreck has been extensively colonized by corals, sponges, and marine growth, transforming it into a thriving artificial reef that attracts a diverse community of marine life. Large groupers, sweetlips, and batfish congregate around the hull, while lionfish and scorpionfish hide among the encrusted structure. Schools of glassfish swirl inside the wreck's open compartments, and nudibranchs populate the surfaces. The moderate depth and generally calm conditions make the Papatheo accessible to advanced divers, though visibility can be variable depending on conditions. It stands as one of the best wreck dives within reach of Jakarta, offering a compelling dive experience in the capital's marine backyard.
