Sauwandarek Jetty is a superb macro and muck diving site beneath the village jetty on Mansuar Island in Raja Ampat, where the pilings create a rich micro-habitat in the heart of the world's most biodiverse marine region. The wooden pylons are encrusted in colorful soft corals, tunicates, and sponges that host an astounding density of critters: frogfish, seahorses, ghost pipefish, and Banggai cardinalfish shelter among the structure, while the surrounding sand and rubble support blue-ringed octopus, mantis shrimp, and countless nudibranch species. The site descends to about 28 meters, though the richest finds are in the shallows around the jetty. Night diving here is exceptional, with Spanish dancers, bobtail squid, and fluorescent corals putting on a spectacular show. Easy conditions and shallow depths make Sauwandarek Jetty accessible to all levels while providing world-class macro photography opportunities.
