The Sophie Rickmers is an impressive wreck dive off Pulau Weh in Aceh, featuring a large cargo vessel from the early 20th century resting on the seabed between 30 and 55 meters depth. The ship's substantial size—over 100 meters long—provides extensive exploration opportunities for experienced technical divers, with the hull structure well-preserved and gradually being colonized by soft corals, sponges, and hydroids. Schools of batfish, sweetlips, and glassfish hover around the wreck, while large groupers and moray eels inhabit the hull compartments. The surrounding sand harbors interesting macro life, and the deeper sections may reveal pelagic visitors from the open water. Due to the significant depth, strong currents, and limited visibility that can occur, the Sophie Rickmers is strictly for advanced and technical divers. It stands as one of the most significant wreck dives in Sumatra, combining maritime history with rich marine colonization.
