Batee Gua is an advanced dive site in the waters off Pulau Weh (Sabang) in Aceh, northern Sumatra, featuring dramatic underwater rock formations with caves, swim-throughs, and overhangs. The volcanic rock structures are adorned with colorful soft corals, gorgonian fans, and sponges, creating a vibrant seascape against the dark basalt. The site's caves and caverns shelter lobsters, groupers, and sleeping nurse sharks, while the open water around the rocks attracts schools of trevally, barracuda, and fusiliers. Manta rays visit seasonally, and whale sharks have been spotted passing through the deep blue water beyond the reef. Currents can be strong and variable, demanding advanced diving skills and good buoyancy control. Batee Gua showcases the underwater treasures of Pulau Weh, an emerging diving destination that offers pristine reefs and big-animal encounters far from the crowds of Indonesia's more popular dive regions.
