Manta Point, on the southwestern coast of Nusa Penida in Bali, is Indonesia's most famous manta ray cleaning station — a shallow bay where oceanic and reef manta rays gather year-round to be serviced by cleaner wrasse at submerged coral bommies. The site offers one of the most reliable manta encounter opportunities anywhere in the world, with sightings recorded on more than 90% of dives during peak season. The main cleaning station sits at 8-15 meters on a series of coral-covered bommies, where cleaner wrasse and butterflyfish remove parasites from visiting mantas. Divers kneel or hover at a respectful distance as the mantas approach, glide, and circle the bommies, sometimes lingering for 20 minutes or more. Individual mantas have been documented by researchers for years, and the resident population is estimated at over 200 animals. Oceanic mantas (Mobula birostris), with wingspans up to 6 meters, visit alongside the more common reef mantas (Mobula alfredi). Beyond the headline mantas, the site is rich in reef life. Napoleon wrasse cruise the sandy channels, nudibranchs and pipefish inhabit the coral heads, and blue-spotted stingrays rest on the sand. The shallow top of the reef hosts butterflyfish, surgeonfish, and anemone gardens with clownfish. Mola mola (ocean sunfish) occasionally appear in the cooler summer upwellings, creating the rare combination of mantas and molas on a single dive. The site is an easy dive for Open Water divers — depths are mostly 8-15 meters, currents usually mild, and conditions sheltered. Reached by speedboat from Padangbai on Bali (45 minutes) or directly from Nusa Penida dive centers. Visibility typically 10-20 meters (occasionally less in plankton blooms that attract the mantas). Water temperatures 22-27°C. Peak manta activity runs July through October, but the resident population means encounters are possible year-round.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
