Achziv Canyon

Achziv Canyon is an advanced dive site in northern Israel's Mediterranean coast, near the Achziv National Park and the Lebanese border. The site features a dramatic underwater canyon carved into the limestone seabed, creating towering walls and overhangs that shelter a rich Mediterranean marine community. The canyon walls are adorned with colorful sponges, sea squirts, and bryozoans, while groupers, moray eels, and octopuses inhabit the crevices. Schools of damselfish and wrasse patrol the canyon, and large dusky groupers—once rare but recovering thanks to marine protection efforts—are a highlight. The canyon's orientation channels currents that bring nutrients and pelagic visitors including amberjack and occasional barracuda schools. The depth and current exposure warrant the advanced rating. Achziv Canyon is one of Israel's finest Mediterranean dive sites, showcasing the surprisingly rich marine biodiversity of the eastern Mediterranean in a setting of genuine underwater drama.
