La Grande Montagna is an expert-level seamount dive off the Calabrian Tyrrhenian coast, where a massive underwater mountain rises from abyssal depths to create one of southern Italy's most spectacular deep dives. The pinnacle's walls are covered with pristine gorgonian forests, black coral trees, and dense fields of golden zoanthids at depth. Large pelagic species cruise the blue water around the summit, including schools of tuna, amberjack, and the occasional passing shark. Extreme depth and strong currents make this exclusively for technical divers, but the reward is a truly world-class Mediterranean dive experience.
