Canalone is an advanced dive off the Catania coast in eastern Sicily, where an underwater canyon cuts through the volcanic seabed creating a dramatic channel dive. The canyon walls are covered in gorgonians, sponges, and encrusting organisms, while the sandy floor occasionally reveals rays and flatfish. Strong currents can funnel through the channel, attracting amberjack and barracuda. The volcanic basalt geology shaped by Mount Etna gives the site a dark and atmospheric character. A thrilling drift dive for experienced divers who enjoy current-swept underwater landscapes.
