Secca del Papa is a renowned shoal within the Tavolara Marine Protected Area off northeast Sardinia, accessible to divers of all levels. This submerged plateau rises from deeper waters to create a shallow reef where sunlight illuminates a thriving Mediterranean ecosystem. Posidonia meadows border the rocky reef, providing nursery habitat for juvenile fish including wrasses, sea breams, and painted combers. The gentle topography features low boulders encrusted with colorful sponges and anemones, with octopuses frequently spotted hunting among the crevices. The clear waters of the Tavolara MPA — among the most pristine in the Mediterranean — offer exceptional visibility, making this an ideal site for beginners to experience Sardinia's remarkable marine biodiversity in a protected setting.
