Cabel Reef is an advanced dive site in Aqaba, Jordan, named for the underwater telecommunications cable that runs across the seabed near this reef. The cable itself has become an accidental artificial reef, with corals and sponges colonizing its protective casing and fish using it as a navigation landmark. The main reef extends to 30 meters over a slope featuring excellent coral diversity — dense hard coral gardens on the upper sections transition to impressive gorgonian fans and soft coral clusters deeper down. The cable attracts an interesting mix of species: pipefish hide along its length, nudibranchs graze on the encrusting organisms, and scorpionfish lie in ambush nearby. The broader reef area hosts healthy populations of groupers, turtles, and schooling barracuda. The site's depth range and the presence of the cable running into deeper water create natural exploration routes for experienced divers.
