The TriStar Lockheed L1011 is Aqaba's most spectacular artificial reef — a complete wide-body commercial airliner sunk in 2019 to create a unique underwater attraction. Resting at 30 meters depth, this massive aircraft with its 50-meter wingspan creates an awe-inspiring underwater spectacle. The fuselage, wings, and tail section are intact, allowing divers to swim through the cabin — now stripped of seats — and explore the cockpit area. Marine colonization is progressing rapidly, with soft corals establishing on the wing surfaces and fish communities forming around the engine nacelles and landing gear. Batfish frequently accompany divers around the wreck, and schools of jacks circle overhead. The TriStar is the largest aircraft ever sunk for recreational diving, and its combination of enormous scale, intact structure, and growing marine ecosystem makes it one of the most unique dive sites in the entire Red Sea.
