Toilet Bowl is an advanced dive site off Okinawa's east coast, named for the swirling circular current pattern created by the site's unique topography. The reef features a bowl-shaped depression in the limestone seabed that channels water in a rotating pattern, descending to 40 meters at its deepest point. The bowl's walls are covered with soft corals and sea fans that lean with the persistent currents, while the sandy floor attracts garden eels and sand-dwelling gobies. The surrounding reef hosts healthy hard coral growth with diverse fish populations including butterflyfish, angelfish, and schools of fusiliers. Sea turtles are frequently spotted resting on the coral ledges. The swirling current that gives the site its name provides an exhilarating drift when conditions are right, but requires careful buoyancy management and respect for the depth. This is a unique dive experience among Okinawa's many excellent sites.
