Casuarina Point Reef Don Foster's Dive House Reef

Casuarina Point Reef, also known as Don Foster's Dive House Reef, is a welcoming beginner-level dive site on Grand Cayman's west coast, just north of George Town. Reaching 16 metres at its deepest, this shore-accessible site has served as the house reef for Don Foster's Dive, one of the Cayman Islands' longest-operating dive centres, for decades. The site is entered directly from the ironshore adjacent to the dive centre, making it one of the most convenient dives on the island. A short surface swim leads to the reef edge, where the bottom drops gently from the shallow hard pan to a sandy slope interspersed with coral heads and small reef formations. The easy access and manageable profile make this a favourite for training dives, night dives, and casual afternoon explorations. The coral reef at Casuarina Point is remarkably healthy for a site that receives such frequent diver traffic, a testament to the responsible diving practices encouraged by the dive centre. Hard coral coverage is good, with brain corals, star corals, and pillar coral specimens creating a varied reef structure. Barrel sponges and tube sponges add their characteristic forms, while gorgonians sway in the light surge. The marine life is exceptionally friendly, with years of regular diver presence having habituated the fish to close approaches. Large Nassau groupers follow divers like underwater puppies, while green moray eels extend from their crevices without the wariness shown at less-visited sites. Spotted eagle rays glide past periodically, and hawksbill turtles are regular visitors to the reef. Night diving at Casuarina Point is a local favourite, with the resident octopus population putting on hunting displays that rival any nature documentary. Basket stars unfurl their fractal arms from elevated perches, and bioluminescence sparkles in the wake of passing divers. With water temperatures of 27 to 29 degrees and visibility often exceeding 20 metres, this house reef delivers a quintessential Cayman diving experience in the most accessible format possible.
