Platamuni is an advanced dive site near Budva on Montenegro's Adriatic coast, where dramatic underwater cliff formations create some of the most spectacular diving in the southeastern Adriatic. The rugged coastline at Platamuni continues its dramatic topography beneath the surface, with sheer rock walls descending into the blue. The underwater landscape features limestone cliffs and large boulder formations that create walls, caverns, and swim-throughs of considerable scale. The geological features are reminiscent of the famous coastal cliffs visible above the waterline, with the same dramatic rock layering and erosion patterns continuing underwater. Natural arches and tunnels add architectural interest to the dive. The advanced rating reflects the site's exposure to Adriatic currents, the depth of the more impressive features, and the overhead environments within the cavern systems. The open coast position means conditions can change quickly, and experienced judgment is needed to assess whether the site is diveable on any given day. Marine life at Platamuni benefits from the diverse habitat provided by the cliff formations. Large groupers, including dusky groupers of impressive size, inhabit the deeper overhangs. Schools of damselfish cloud above the reef, while wrasses and blennies work the rocky surfaces. Lobsters retreat into the deepest crevices, and nudibranchs reward careful searching of the encrusted walls. The cavern interiors at Platamuni harbour species adapted to reduced light, including sponges in vivid colours and colonial organisms that coat the ceiling. Entering these spaces and looking back toward the entrance, where blue light streams in from the open water, is one of the most atmospheric experiences in Montenegrin diving. Visibility commonly reaches 15 to 25 metres during the diving season from May to October. Water temperatures peak at 24 to 25 degrees in late summer. Platamuni is Montenegro's flagship dive site.

Absolutely stunning dive site. The visibility was exceptional and we spotted several species we had never seen before. Will definitely come back.
Great spot for advanced divers. Currents can be tricky but the marine life makes it worth it.
One of the best dive sites in the region. Highly recommended.
