The Tihani Shipwreck is an advanced deep wreck dive off Montenegro's coast, resting at 40 metres in the Adriatic Sea near the Bay of Kotor. This substantial wreck provides one of the most compelling wreck diving experiences in Montenegro, combining significant depth with an intact structure that offers genuine exploration opportunities. The vessel lies on the sandy bottom with much of its hull and superstructure still recognisable, providing a dramatic sight as it materialises from the blue during descent. The ship's size creates a substantial diving area, with external exploration of the hull, deck structures, and bridge possible during a single dive, though the depth severely limits available bottom time. Marine colonisation has progressed over the years, with the wreck developing a coating of Mediterranean marine growth. Sponges, tunicates, and small soft corals encrust the hull and deck surfaces, while harder substrates support growth of serpulid worms and barnacles. The wreck's shelter effect has attracted a resident fish community that includes impressive groupers, conger eels, and schools of damselfish. Penetration of the wreck's interior spaces reveals darker environments where beam-shy species shelter. Conger eels of considerable size inhabit the engine room area, while lobsters and crabs have claimed territories within the hull structure. The wreck's metal surfaces within provide substrate for organisms adapted to low-light conditions. The 40-metre depth places this wreck firmly in advanced territory, with bottom time limited to approximately 10 minutes on air before decompression obligations begin. Many visiting divers use nitrox to extend their no-decompression limits, while technical divers employ trimix for extended exploration. The Adriatic's cooler deep water temperatures demand appropriate thermal protection. Visibility at depth can be excellent, reaching 20 metres or more on good days. The diving season runs from May to October, with the warmest conditions in July and August.
