The Blue Hole and Remains of Azure Window is a beginner-friendly entry to one of Malta's most famous dive sites at Dwejra, Gozo. This version of the iconic Blue Hole site focuses on the shallower, more accessible aspects of the dive, including the upper portions of the limestone chimney and the massive boulder field created by the collapse of the Azure Window in 2017. The Blue Hole's shallow pool provides a comfortable entry point, with calm water surrounded by limestone cliffs. From here, divers can descend gently into the chimney, exploring the upper walls where natural light creates brilliant blue illumination. The shallower portions of the chimney are suitable for all certified divers, with the depth increasing gradually enough that beginners can enjoy the experience within their certification limits. The Azure Window collapse created a dramatic new underwater landscape of enormous limestone blocks that now rest on the seabed around the Blue Hole. These massive boulders, some the size of houses, have created a new reef system of swim-throughs, overhangs, and passages that has rapidly been colonised by marine life. The transformation from famous landmark to underwater wonderland is a fascinating study in geological and ecological change. Marine life in the boulder field is flourishing, with the new habitat structures attracting fish and invertebrate species in impressive numbers. Groupers have claimed territories among the massive blocks, while wrasses and bream populate every crevice. The boulders' surfaces are developing coatings of sponges and marine growth that will continue to mature over the coming decades. Visibility at Dwejra is typically exceptional, often exceeding 30 metres. Water temperatures range from 15 to 26 degrees. This site offers all divers access to one of the Mediterranean's most iconic and geologically dynamic underwater locations.
