Reef dives in the West Palm Beach offshore zone offer the classic Southeast Florida ledge experience at its best: limestone ledge formations with undercut faces provide shelter for large aggregations of yellowtail snapper — the signature species of South Florida reef diving — hovering in golden-tailed schools above the reef. Mutton snapper, goliath grouper, and bull sharks are all reliably encountered in this zone. The Gulf Stream's influence means occasional visitors from open ocean: manta rays, hammerhead sharks, and open-water pelagics approach the reef with regularity not seen at more inshore sites.
