
Black Rock Beach in Nova Scotia is a beginner-friendly shore dive near Halifax featuring easy water access over a dark rocky beach that gives the site its name. The underwater terrain consists of granite boulders and cobble transitioning to a sandy bottom, creating varied habitat for cold-water species. Lobsters, rock crabs, and sea urchins populate the rocky areas while winter flounder and cunner patrol the transitions. The sheltered bay provides calm conditions for training and macro photography. Summer visibility can be excellent, and the site's convenient location makes it one of the most popular shore dives in the Halifax regional area.
