
Herring Cove near Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a beginner-friendly shore dive at the entrance to Halifax Harbour. The cove's rocky bottom slopes to moderate depth with good kelp coverage. Tidal water from the harbour brings nutrients supporting diverse marine life. Lobsters, crabs, sea urchins, and multiple sea star species are common. Schools of cunner, sculpin, and seasonal herring runs add fish diversity. The cove's easy access from Halifax makes it one of the most dived sites in the area. Night dives are popular, with the harbour entrance lights creating atmospheric conditions.
