El Almirante

El Almirante (The Admiral) is an advanced dive at María la Gorda on Cuba's Guanahacabibes Peninsula. This deep wall dive features a dramatic reef drop-off where the shallow coral platform gives way to a vertical wall plunging into deep blue water. The wall is adorned with massive black coral trees, giant barrel sponges, and spectacular gorgonian sea fans. Large groupers, barracuda, and reef sharks patrol the wall edge, while eagle rays and occasional hammerhead sharks pass through in the blue. The exposed position and strong currents demand advanced diving skills, but El Almirante offers some of the most impressive deep wall diving at María la Gorda.
