El Ancla de François (François's Anchor) is a beginner-friendly dive at MarÃa la Gorda on Cuba's Guanahacabibes Peninsula. This site features an old anchor resting on the sandy seabed that has become a focal point for marine life, with the anchor and surrounding chain now encrusted with corals and sponges. The reef around the anchor hosts schools of grunts, yellowtail snappers, and sergeant majors, while nurse sharks and sea turtles are common visitors. The historical anchor adds a touch of maritime heritage to the dive, evoking Cuba's rich seafaring history. Easy conditions and shallow depth make this a relaxing and interesting dive for all experience levels.
